Buffer allocation in general single-server queueing networks

چکیده
The optimal buffer allocation in queueing network systems is a difficult stochastic, non-linear, integer mathematical programming problem. Moreover, the objective function, the constraints or both are usually not available in closed-form, making the problem even harder. A good approximation for the performance measures is thus essential for a successful buffer allocation algorithm. A recently published two-moment approximation formula for predicting the optimal buffer allocation in general service time single queues is examined in details, based on which a new algorithm is proposed for buffer allocation in singleserve general service time queueing networks. Computational results are shown to evaluate the efficacy of the approach in generating optimal buffer allocation patterns.

Buffer allocation in general finite multi-server queuing networks
We address in this paper the buffer allocation problem in general service, finite waiting room, multi-server queueing networks. Several instances are examined using an approximation method to estimate the performance of the queueing networks and an iterative search method is developed to find the optimal buffer allocation within the network. The coefficient of variation of the service time is s...
متن کاملTopological network design of general, finite, multi-server queueing networks
The topological network design of general service, finite waiting room, multi-server queueing networks is a complex optimization problem. Series, merge, and split topologies are examined using an approximation method to estimate the performance of these queueing networks and an iterative search methodology to find the optimal buffer allocation within the network. The coefficient of variation is...
متن کاملDuality and Equivalencies in Closed Tandem Queueing Networks
Equivalence relations between closed tandem queueing networks are established. Four types of models are under consideration: single-server infinite-capacity buffer queues, infinite-server queues with resequencing, single-server unit-capacity buffer queues with blocking before service, and single-server unit-capacity buffer queues with blocking after service. Using a customer/server duality we s...
متن کاملA heavy traffic limit theorem for a class of open queueing networks with finite buffers
We consider a queueing network of d single server stations. Each station has a finite capacity waiting buffer, and all customers served at a station are homogeneous in terms of service requirements and routing. The routing is assumed to be deterministic and hence feedforward. A server stops working when the downstream buffer is full. We show that a properly normalized d-dimensional queue length...
متن کاملOn Two-Echelon Multi-Server Queue with Balking and Limited Intermediate Buffer
In this paper we study two echelon multi-server tandom queueing systems where customers arrive according to a poisson process with two different rates. The service rates at both echelons are independent of each other. The service times of customers is assumed to be completed in two stages. The service times at each stage are exponentially distributed. At the first stage, the customers may balk ...
